IMPROVING YOUR SQUAT
OVERALL RATING
My squatting is far from perfect but with practice I have been able to bring it up a lot over the past year. Here are some things you may or may not know that can help you with your squat! -STAYING TIGHT BEFORE THE DESCENT: Before I unrack the bar, regardless of how heavy or light the load is, I make sure to stay rigid throughout my body, bracing my upper back, lats, core, and glutes. I focus on one rep at a time, brace my core, and make sure I keep my neck in a neutral position (don't look up or down, look forward). -LOW BAR VS HIGH BAR: I tend to lean forward considerably when I squat because I have a really long torso and long femurs. People who have different body proportions will have different looking squats (check out Robin Gallant and Layne Norton for reference and for other awesome content). Squatting low bar feels so much more natural to me and gave me hope when I thought the cue to "stay upright" was **** impossible ;( -PRIORITIZING MOBILITY: I used to neglect stretching and mobility but it's important not to skip it in order to encourage proper movement patterns. Tight shoulders, hips, and ankles have made my squat ugly in the past but making an effort to mobilize before my workout has made a massive difference. Let me know if you guys have any other tips, I'm always looking for ways to improve my lifts and get stronger! Hopefully you guys learned something :) happy squatting!!
