Not all progress is physical
OVERALL RATING
I wanted to make a post about something important to me because I feel like it has become an issue within the fitness community due to the rise in popularity of fitness competitions. I am guilty of only comparing myself to when I'm 12% body fat and in full on contest prep mode, but it's so important to embrace yourself at all stages in your fitness journey. The whole point of a bodybuilding contest is to showcase your best physique. Athletes spend months training and making a lot of sacrifices for a contest, often manipulating their sodium/carb/water intake in order to present themselves at their absolute physical best. The physical state competitors bring to the stage would be impossible to maintain year-round. Just because you aren't shredded doesn't mean you shouldn't be proud of yourself (and most of what you see on Instagram is a "highlight reel" anyway. We're all guilty of it) Not everyone is a bodybuilder or a powerlifter or a crossfitter, and not everyone wants to be one!!! If your goal isn't to compete there is no sense in comparing yourself to other competitors. Having a six pack isn't the be-all and end-all of fitness and there is so much more to being "healthy" or "fit" than just weight loss and being shredded. Focus on yourself and being proud of your own journey and you will feel so much more fulfilled.
