RESIST THE URGE TO PUSH HARDER... thatâs my mantra for this 5K training. Itâs the plan that has to be followed. That takes discipline. It takes a strong mind. In a world that wants instant success which the majority of the time leads to failure and injuries both in fitness and everyday life. Whether itâs relationships or your own body. Stay focused. You donât have to rush life for it goes by fast enough. I certainly can attest to that. As I ran I pondered some things I need to concentrate on in order for me to be successful. Hope they inspire you too. Individual sports like long distance running are especially tough because as a runner we are on our own. We are not playing as a team. We must have tremendous desire, determination, dedication and discipline, notwithstanding commitment, enthusiasm and mental toughness. We must set goals and prepare. To become a winning athlete, I must be a hungry fighter and hungry for success, hungry for victory and hungry to simply be the best I can be. My body does not want me to run a 5K. My mind must make me do it. Therefore, I have to develop a rationale so powerful, a determination so strong, that it will enable my mind to overcome the vigorous protests of my body. I recall what Bill Rodgers said, the winner of four Boston and four New York Marathons, âTo be a consistent winner means preparing not just one day, one month, or even one year, but for a lifetime.â#fitgrandpaonajourney #fitguyonajourney
