I am a former college basketball player, then after teaching for a few years I went into the Army. After serving for 6 yrs I decided it was time to go to civilian life as being away so much was taking a toll on my family/children. 3yrs after that I was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer. I am here on this site now because after being so in shape for all of my life, this is the farthest I am ever going to have to go to get back in shape. The cancer procedure (both were removed) left almost a 13 inch inch incision on my midsection, from about 5 inches above my bellybutton on down around it, and straight down below. I was in a bed for almost 5 months solid at the time, and now 3 yrs later, my oncologist says I am still cancer free and it is safe to start moving forward in my health/fitness. I have a belly that is much larger now obviously, but it gets even more pronounced due to the scare tissue that runs the length of my incision. It sits on top of my abs and looks likes a hog's back it's so pronounced, but I call it my trophy for getting thru that procedure/process. My goal is get back down to 250 pounds to start with, I am not sure how much I can do with this scar tissue, but i am taking things one step at a time with the help of my doctors. I started in June with just trying to walk around my office during my lunch hour, and at the start of July my company arranged for us to be able to use the local community center which was great. I would like to get my bodyfat down as much as possible, and transform myself as much as I can, as I don't know what will be my limit.
