I am disabled by a brain disease, it effects my mobility, sight and nervous system. Constantly challenging my muscle and nervous system keeps me out of a wheel chair for as long as possible. With mobility problems, control of body weight is a common problem. Working out is more of a way of life, it may not stop degeneration, but I do try to make the most of what my body can do.
Taking up a sport or active hobby I have found maintains my health, even when everything else seems to go against it. Using static mass such as weights are great for when I am having mobility issues, these, for me, can be done at home or in a gym or as part of a pre training routine. My sport relies very much on explosive power at a high cadence over 200, 500 or 1000m distance.
The elite athletes combine strength training programs with race training. An example being doing pull ups with plates, these can be as much as two thirds of the athletes weight, Ed Mckeever weighs 80kg and pulls 60 kg of plates. If I could emulate this even to a small amount I will be very happy as this would be one of my bench marks achieved.
