Something i've tried to do for many years, about 11 actually. Would always see people I work with taking time out of their day to go to the gym. I tried a few times, quite a few actually but never actually got in the habit. In my mind, I always justified NOT going as a)my body looks fine the way it is, because i'm a naturally thin guy, and blessed with a speedy metabolism; and b)Since I AM a naturally thin guy, nothing I do is going to make a difference i.e. i'll never get bigger or look any better, I'll always be 'the skinny guy' in the group.
What changed for me is that while I was never the fat guy in the group of my friends, at home and in private, I KNEW I didn't like the way my body was. I KNEW that I wanted to be bigger and leaner, and I KNEW that with motivation and hard work, not to mention the availability of supplements today (when I first got started creatine was mostly just a white powder that tasted HORRIBLE)anyone can be and look like anything they want.
I've been out to sea since July 2011, in the gulf. And day in day out there's not a lot to do but work and workout, so I set myself to it, and it's getting me results.
First and foremost, I LOVE the way my body is shaping up. Working out is one of the few things in life that you can take complete credit for; no one makes me go to the gym, no one makes me watch what I eat, and no one cares about me more than me. So the results belong to each individual.
Second, I love the energy it gives me. A lot of excuses start with 'I'm too tired'. But once I get over the first hurdle of ACTUALLY putting on my gym clothes (which is the hardest part for me) the rest is just momentum gaining. I tell myself I'm too tired, but I make the motion of pulling on shorts and t-shirt and by then I'm getting a little more amped to get out there, then I start working and get the endorphins flowing, the energy is better than anything you'll find in a can. It's my second or third wind for the day.
Lastly, who doesn't like to look good naked? I mean, the few seconds before I get in the shower, when i see my work paying off. Can't beat it.
