I was a two season athlete in high school- I ran track and cross country. Like many high school girls (as well as women of all ages) I had a lot of body issues-- I was always trying new ways to lose weight and stay thin. Never feeling comfortable in my body I went on a lot of crash diets, got down to severely low calories, binged & purged... etc. When I was about 17 I started lifting weights casually and was eating much more. After I got to college I lifted a bit more but still never touched a barbell-- just dumbbells and bodyweight exercises. I maintained my weight of 140-145 lbs from 17-22 then I got pregnant. After pregnancy I wanted my body back so I started Bret Contreras' program from his book "Strong Curves"..... I got in the best shape I have ever been in, in about 4 months!! I had a minor knee injury from increasing my squat weight too quickly and fell off the wagon. Now I am back on it doing the 2015 Transformation Challenge and Jamie Eason's LiveFit Trainer. So far, I love it! I am seeing great results :)
I love lifting because I see visible results quickly, I get noticeably stronger each week, and it is fun to work hard in the gym! Cardio has many benefits, but until I began throwing weight around I did not have visible abs, no biceps to speak of, and my butt wasn't nearly as perky! I also feel so clear headed when I remain active. I make better food choices and in general, am a better version of myself.
