During my first pregnancy in 2006/2007 I was going through a very rough time in my life. I gained over 60lbs
during my pregnancy and really let my self go. I had pregnancy related hypertension and was at an all time low
during this time. 6 months post par tum I decided to join a gym and started to workout. I remember doing my first weigh
in and I weighed 90kgs! My heart fell.
After working out for 3 months my weight had dropped to 82kg and as basically living one day at a time. Then in January
2008 I had to attend a wedding and at the wedding everyone commented on how big I had got. I also took some photographs
at this wedding and I was shocked and very unhappy seeing how out of shape I had got. That very same day I decided enough
was enough and that I had to take control of my life. On my way back from the wedding I told my mom that I was going to the
GYM the moment I got home and I did exactly that.
That night I was browsing the internet for more information on losing weight post pregnancy and accidentally
stumbled upon Bodybuilding.com. I read some of the transformations of ladies who have had babies and managed to get
really fit and lean. This was my second turning point.I decided if they can do it then I can too. The next day I went
to the GYM with a copy of OXYGEN magazine and went straight up to the trainer at my gym and asked him, what would
I have to do to look like this, pointing at a fitness model. I remember my trainer not taking me seriously and joking
that I would have to take some pills to look like that. I mentally challenged him and said, tell me what I have to do
and I would do it. We started with looking at my diet and making some changes there and then he got me to lift weights.
And since then there was no looking back for me. I trained so hard that in 4 months I lost all my baby weight and more.
I maintained my weight for 1 year and then got pregnant with my second baby. In spite of working out through out my
pregnancy stress and giving into cravings made me gain 80lbs! However 3 weeks post par tum I started to workout again
and the weight started to come off little by little. Then again I contacted my trainer and we both worked very hard. I got
stronger and stronger and lost all my baby weight. Now 2 years post par tum I have maintained my weight and now I aspire to
compete in a competition some day. My lifestyle has changed so much and I love getting up every morning and hitting the GYM
for my 60 minutes of Nirvana! I strive to set a positive example to my kids and show them the importance of healthy eating and exercise.
When people ask me about my diet, I say "This is not a diet, this is a lifestyle for me. This is how I opt to live for the rest of my life."
I am so thankful to God for my husband, mom and my trainer. These 3 people basically helped me to reach my goal and support me everyday,
in what I do. The journey will never end for me. I just want to keep going to see what I am capable of achieving!
