I've been athletic since I was a child. I grew up helping my dad split firewood and lug it into the house, carrying 50lb feed bags for the animals, and doing a lot of work outside. I find a lot of enjoyment in pushing my limits and getting through tough situations -- nothing was more rewarding than finishing out an awesome backcountry backpacking trip through Alaska knowing I'd carried my heavy pack, caught and cleaned my dinners, and hiked to the top of a mountain, even in rainy 40-degree weather. Part of why I enjoy lifting is that it enables me to do more things like that.
