From a young age, I learned that I have an affinity for the iron. I grew up an athlete (soccer, cross country, track) but never took my training or nutrition seriously until I found myself in college and 25lbs overweight. In the spring of 2011, I decided to run a marathon to help me get back on track. After I completed my marathon in December of 2011, I noticed I was still quite overweight and wasn't sure how I could be training (running) for miles each week and still be fat (skinny-fat). That's when a friend suggested Bodybuilding.com. I have never looked back! I started with Jamie Eason's LiveFit Program (excellent for beginngers) and learned the ins and outs of nutrition and weight lifting. Fast forward 4 years and I am now and ACSM Certified Personal Trainer working at a small gym in Wichita, KS and helping others reach their health and fitness goals. I have competed in 4 different bodybuilding competitions in the figure division, but am now currently pursuing a career as a national level powerlifter. I hold state records in the USAPL 47kg class at 92.5kg/65kg/107.5kg.
The gym has completely changed and saved my life. Were it not for the life lessons I've learned from focusing on my overall health and fitness, I would most likely be dead right now, or still an alcoholic. Bodybuilding has taught me that hard work, patience, consistency and persistence can get me almost anything I want in life. It has shifted my focused from things that give me instant gratification (alcohol, junk food, laziness), to things that will help me reach my goals and ensure I live a long and healthy life (discipline, proper nutrition, cardiovascular health).
Bodybuilding.com has been a huge part of my journey and I hope that if you are reading this, you dive into the website head first and use all the valuable information it has to offer!
