I was obese as a child weighing nearly 220-lbs at age 13 and 5ft 6in. Fortunately I lost all the weight before high school and kept it off by riding BMX. Once I started college though my weight went right back up to 220-lbs due to inactivity and overeating. I was 5ft 8in though so I didn't look as bad but I still felt terrible. I was weak, tired all the time, and having chest discomfort on the regular. I could't stand looking at myself in the mirror, so I decided to start eating healthier and working out. I started off by simply eating less and going for daily jogs. This helped me loose 40-lbs very quickly but then I plateaued. I consulted a personal trainer and had some labs done at the doctor. I found that I had a severe decrease in Testosterone and and increase in Estrogen, and Cortisol. My body was pretty much toxic and inflamed from running so much and eating so little. My personal trainer placed me on a high fat, high protein diet along with a training plan to maximize muscle growth and raise my testosterone levels. From there I decided to obtain my own personal training certification so that I could better understand how to take care of my body.
To be honest I workout because I want to change my physique. Being overweight as a child and then again as a freshmen in college was unbearable. I want to achieve a goal physique so that I can say I finally did it. Aside from esthetics working out and eating well makes me feel wonderful and happy. Everything in life seems just a little bit better/easier when my body is being taken care of. Put simply, I want to be healthy and live a long and prosperous life.
