Well I have always been involved in fitness to some extent though out my life. I grew up in an Italian household so, you know there was a lot of eating going on and I was more on the pudgy side of the scale. So, when I was about ten years old I decided to go on a diet. I knew nothing about what I was doing... I barely ate and overexercised. I lost weight but that was not a life style my body could live with. Once I started eating again I over ate the wrong things and gained weight fast! While I was not fat I was very thick. I joined a gym with my mom at about fourteen years old and again did not know what I was doing... I did an obscene amount of time on the elliptical and thread mill and thought I could eat what ever I wanted... wrong. That when on for a while, then I started college away from home and naturally lost weight because of the walking around campus and being away from my mother's cooking haha... but I would still go home on the weekends and pig out! About 2 years into college I moved in with my boyfriend and had the means to start shopping healthy. Still then, I would do situps and lift light weight doing the same thing over and over again... I never knew about shocking my body. So, I got bored and so did my body. Well after getting married, buying a house, you know the whole nine yards... we decided to have a baby. When I got pregnant I had to start eating every 2 to 3 hours or I would get sick... so I decided to make them healthy snacks because I was determined not to be one of those women that let themselves go just because they were pregnant. Once I had my son, I was back to my normal weight in about 6 weeks which was good, but I had to tone up. Being a stay at home mom gave me a lot of time, after the initial shock of having a newborn wore off! When my son was about 3 months old and I was feeling up to it I started lifting weights and doing sit ups again but no variation... the same old thing everyday :/ I was on Facebook and like a group called Skinny mom, from there I seen Brooke Stacy - fitness model and started seeing articles about working out and eating from both sources. Then the obsession started... I stared doing research and found out about bodybuilding.com... and from there well things just took off. I have been at it a year in August and am loving it! I have never felt so passionate about anything before... I learn more everyday and challenge the person I was yesterday :)
Working out gives me a sense of confidence I have never had before. I was a child that did not participate in much... no sports, no clubs, no anything :/ I felt like I didn't fit in anywhere. Now I have a passion... a drive to become better everyday. I love to challenge myself on a daily basis. Also, I feel like I am setting a good example for my family to follow. I hope that one day when my son is older and too cool for me that we can have a common interest in fitness. I see so many people struggle everyday around my with weight and self esteem issues. I would love to get into personal training and teach others some of the things I have learned so that they may feel better about themselves and their bodies.
