I started lifting while training for my first 10k, but only to supplement my running program. I've killed that goal and realized how much I love having a regimented and planned fitness challenge. I knew I wanted to give weight lifting/body building a try, but I needed a tangible goal/plan.
My first weight lifting program was Jamie Eason's...and I loved it. I enjoyed feeling strong and powerful. But, I wasn't really seeing visible results in my body.
By the time I moved to Florida I was at my heaviest - 155 lbs. I was miserable. I wanted to leave my first military assignment in the best shape of my life, and instead I was in the worst shape of my life. I decided to make a change.
I started working with a trainer to kick my nutrition, lifting and cardio in sync with one another. I finally learned how to master my nutrition to drive results. I've not looked back since.
Going to the gym is quickly becoming my zen center. I now have a drive to reach the end of the work day on even the most frustrating of days just so I can get to the gym, put in my headphones and toss some heavy things around. Being fit for my troops helps me feel like I'm doing right by them both on and off the field.
