I started in high school because I wanted easy classes. I loved the results so I took more and more classes that involved weightlifting and weight training. I got out of that habit after high school until I worked as a janitor at a small fitness club in college. Then when I was done there I didn't really work out until about a year ago. Doctors told my mom she needed to exercise so I go with her so she's not so self conscious. I have used some of my knowledge about what muscles are targeted by different machines to help her strengthen her muscles plus I use the time to work on me. I've been working out for a year and I like what I see.
I don't know where to start but I'll try. I was diagnosed with Asthma as a kid and working out helps control it. I don't need meds for it and I don't get short of breath. The only "meds" I need are in the fitness club/gym. On top of that I love seeing the weight I can lift going up, for example I could lift 190 on the Leg Press but I wanted more of a challenge so 190 became 200 then 210 and now I'm up to 255 lbs.
