I grew up a dancer, both competitively and in a classical ballet setting. My junior year, I tore about 5 hip muscles on my left side and was unable to return to dancing. After months of physical therapy, I decided to join a gym to keep myself active and continue to rehab/strengthen my muscles to prevent future injuries. From the day I stepped into the gym, I fell in love. The more time I spent there, the more I learned about the sport of competitive bodybuilding, and the more I became interested in it. I decided to fuse my love of performing and being onstage with my newfound love of health and fitness, so I began my journey to my first NPC bikini competition in spring 2014, the NPC Kentucky Derby in Louisville, KY. Since then I have competed in 7 shows, taking home awards at 6.
Training is something that I do out of genuine love and care for myself. I love the feeling of strength that heavy squats and deadlifts bring. I love the sense of accomplishment I feel after getting through a rough set or a grueling sprint workout or hitting a new PR. Bodybuilding and strength training have given me such a strong sense of confidence and happiness both in terms of my physical appearance and mental fortitude. I believe that my confidence has largely been forged from iron and from the daily commitment I have made to taking care of myself.
I also love how bodybuilding has given me the opportunity to educate and share with others the things that I've learned along my own journey. It's such a humbling feeling being able to motivate and inspire other people to take care of themselves and play a small role in helping them develop the very same confidence that I grew to have. The fitness community has been such a positive and encouraging place for me, and I love the sense of camaraderie I feel. It's not an individual sport at all and I value every connection I've made through fitness and bodybuilding.
