Talked my parents into buying me my first weight set when I was in junior high, which was really hard for me to do because I felt like I was admitting how inferior I felt regarding my body and how badly I wanted to have muscles. Couldn't even fathom calling myself a bodybuilder for decades, because I didn't have what I considered a bodybuilder physique, and sometimes still don't. But am certainly gratified that I am in better shape than the majority of men my age--and the compliments I get reinforce that!
I've always wanted a more muscular physique and have been working toward that end for many decades. Now at the ripe old age of 64, I realize what a fountain of youth bodybuilding truly is, and I'm more committed to achieving the physique of my dreams than ever. Obstacles? Sure, they pop up from time to time, but you figure out a way around them--whether it's eliminating exercises that aggravate ligaments and tendons, modifying exercises to avoid injuries, or simply trying variations on established exercises to put the finishing touches on a lagging body part--and keep plugging away! Bodybuilding for me is the ultimate creative outlet, because I'm creating--and re-creating--my body every day!
