After I left college overweight, I started going to the gym on my own. I never played sports in college, and a lot of my usual hobbies are sedentary (reading, baking, knitting, etc.) I got bitten by the running bug in 2012 and trained for and ran two half marathons. In 2013, the perfect storm of awfulness happened when I got divorced, developed tendinitis in my right ankle from overuse (running my second half marathon) and stopped eating healthy (depression from the divorce). I'm trying to climb back on the wagon, but time an motivation are major factors in how great I feel about working out on any given day. Like I say to my friends, it's like I fell of the wagon, the wagon backed up over me, and dumped an order of bacon cheese fries out the back before speeding off!
I love the feeling I get after a great workout. I love getting sweaty in the gym. Running long distances is like yoga for me, and I definitely want to get back to a point where I can run 10 miles without stopping like I used to. I love the changes in my physique and looking good in anything I put on when I go clothes shopping. I don't have a lot of "me" time, and working out is a great way to do something for yourself.
