I always ran in high school and in college taught aerobics and ran. I got hooked on long distance running about 12 years ago, ended up running about 23 marathons, amd countless 5K, 10K's and 1/2's. I have done one sprint triathlon too, I always incorporated weights into my routine but it was minimal and I think I was "skinny fat" during that period. The last 5 years I added more and more weights to my routine and started noticing a huge difference in my physique, strength and energy levels. This past year I really bumped up my weight routine, cut back on hours of cardio. I also met with a trainer who reviewed my diet and informed me I wasn't eating enough and not enough protein. I have been encouraged to do a competition and heck ya never know maybe I will! I'm seriously considering it!
It's empowering, I feel strong, it makes me happy. The gym truly is a happy place for me. I love to lift weights, see improvement, get a good sweat on. I can't imagine my life without a daily "something" whether it be a light day of walking, biking or hitting the gym for a hard hour of back, or a kickboxing class.
