I first started being active in the summer of 2012 when I decided I had to do something about my health. I started small and began running. I used a couch 2 5k training program initially to gradually work in to it. When a friend invited me to go on a trail run with a running group, I fell in love with trail running and was hooked. Next thing I knew, I was running in my first ever race; a 10 mile trail race in January...it was snowy, it was cold (0 degrees to be exact), and I had the time of my life! That led to several other races including 5ks, 10ks, 12ks, 10 mile, half marathons, and a 16.2 mile trail race. In August 2013, I started hearing about CrossFit and decided to give that a try as it seemed interesting and I wanted to work on gaining some upper body strength. I bought a deal on groupon for a trial run of CrosFit and once again, I fell in love. I became addicted to the WODs and was always excited to go back to see if I could hit a new PR. The coaches at my gym are fantastic! They give good direction and emphasize the importance of proper form in order to prevent injury. Anyone in Boise wanting to give it a try, go to CrossFit South Boise! I am currently taking a break from CrossFit to focus on training for a bikini competition. I train through Big Jon Fitness. Jon and his trainers are insanely knowledgeable and encouraging people. I absolutely love the process of training for a competition. It is different from CrossFit and running, but just as enjoyable. I'm excited to see my transformation! I don't know what is in store for me next, but I'm positive that staying healthy is going to continue to be a priority for the rest of my life.
