I was active all through high school in sports and music, then in college I was extremely in-shape as a member of the marching band at The Ohio State University. I found my love of fitness through training for tryouts to make that organization every year. After college, I got away from keeping myself personally in good health as I focused on building my resume and dealing with health issues in my immediate family. In the last year, my weight has been up and down depending on my focus, but, as a certified personal trainer with the NSCA, I know it's time to buckle back down and get myself to the level I help other people achieve. I've used Bodybuilding.com to buy supplements in the past and thought it would be a great tracking tool to keep myself honest on my way back to the strength I once knew.
I think working out is a window to opportunity, whether that be in discovering an inner or outer strength we never knew we had, connecting with like minded people to share ideas and success, or simply being able to carry groceries into the house without being out of breath. Fitness is one tool everyone can use, no matter where they are in their personal life, to discover more about themselves and the person they want to become. I love fitness because it's empowering and it challenges us to be the type of people who engage in life and overcome obstacles every day.
