I have social media (particularly Instagram) to thank for jump-starting this fitness lifestyle into full speed. After a few months of following so many inspirational accounts on Instagram, I realized how unhappy I was with my own health/fitness mindset; I put my health on the backburner and let work/social life take the forefront. I held myself accountable for my unhappiness and knew only I could change my mindset. I worked with a personal trainer for a bit but knew I couldn't keep paying that expense so I turned to bodybuilding.com where I decided to follow Dr. Jim Stoppani's Shortcut-to-Size program. I knew I wanted "size" (muscle) because more muscle = less fat and that's my goal. Lose bodyfat, increase muscle mass/strength and eventually compete. I'm starting the 12th and final week of the program today and can honestly say, I have fallen in love with this lifestyle.
I love working out for so many reasons, as does anyone who falls in love with the routine. I love tracking my workouts (exercises, reps, sets, weights), I love seeing progress and increase in strength, I love seeing my hard work pay off, I love the knowledge I have gained, I love lifting heavier than the boys, and I love the challenge. I enjoy knowing that there will always be room for improvement, progress to be made, muscles to define. I'm stronger physically, but more importantly, mentally. I find it easier to say "no" to the negative vices that surround me; alcohol, binges, skipping a workout, peer pressure. Fitness is a never-ending journey and I hope I can share this passion to inspire others to reach for their dream body.
