How I Started
In February,2012 my mother died from a series of health related disorders......she was only 54. She struggled for years with compulsive eating, diabetes, and HBP. That is her story, and I miss her terribly.
My story: A 28 y/o father of 4 (soon to be 5), I became complacent after finishing 6 years in the army. My weight increased steadily as did my unhealthy eating habits. I used to joke that the only lifting I did was the 6 oz remote to turn the channel. I went from a firm 195 and a 34 waist line, to a plump 242 pounds, and a stretched 44 waist line in just over 5 years. My motivation was non-existent, but my belly was exploding. I also suffered an injury during my last year in service (lower back injury) that has continued to plague me. Despite visiting the chiropractor regularly to stay aligned, the potential of leg lifts, squats, and other back exercises could be compromised as I reviewed the 12 week transformation. On March 28 (just about a month after her death) I set out to change my life.
I completed the P-90x program in it's entirety. I burned off 20 pounds of fat in 90 days. By back felt better, my motivation was up, but I was still not satisfied. So I briefly logged onto BB.com and found the 12-week transformation program. I ordered the supplements, printed out the workouts, and in the second week of June, 2012 I set out to bust my tail.
Week 1 (2 week of June) thoughts: OMG, that leg workout was intense. I am walking like I have saddle bags under my legs (for about 4 days afterwards). I certainly had DOMS for each body part, but my motivation is high heading into the first cycle of 2 days on 1 day off. I picked up on the diet right away, but the blandness is difficult to get through.
>>>>>I had someone commit to be my partner through this, but he quit during the 2nd week (noted on edit)>>>>>>>>>>
Week 2 (3rd week of June) thoughts: The visits to the grocery store are becoming laborious. It is hard to keep so much fresh produce and vegetables in the house with the kids....what a struggle (my kids just so happen to like broccoli, so needless to say I have to share). Oh yeah, and I started a new Protein, 5 star chocolate (taste good).
Week 3 (4th week of June) thoughts: Now fully into the cycle, I am not missing any meals yet, and I have begun to see a noticeable difference in energy, motivation, and I feel thinner. The water intake is alot, but then again, I know I need it.
Week 4 (1st week of July) thoughts: I have had to overcome business at work, but I haven't missed a work-out or meal. I have gotten used to the fact that I can only depend on myself to prepare my meals, as our culture (and work environment) doesn't usually allow for 6-7 meals a day. Needless to say, I eat and work at the same time. The workouts are getting more and more intense.
Week 5 (2nd week of July) thoughts: Not much to mention, except for the fact that last week I weighed myself and I only lost 6 pounds (224-218). I take it in stride, as I just came off of p-90x, so I didn't have a bunch of extra water weight to burn.
Week 6 (3rd week in July) thoughts: The thing that confuses me sometimes on this 12 week transformation is that I thought it was consistent 2-1 or 3-1 days on/off. When I click on the days though, sometimes it is 2-3 days off, then 2-3 days on. A bit, confusing, but I have decided to continue with 2-1, 3-1 ratio of off/on, and supplemented workouts to maintain consistent.
Week 7 (4th week of July) thoughts: More than half way through. I don't want this to end, as I promised my wife to get "fixed" during the 1 week I will be taking off after the end......meh
Week 8 (5th week of July 1st of Aug) thoughts: I have certainly begun to switch things up in the diet, as recommended. To keep it fresh, I add various spices, but I am still not using sauces or sugar. My mood has become much more edgy!!!
Week 9 (2nd week of Aug) thoughts: We went on vacation, and boy was that tough not being able to work out. However, I did my cardio and my meals were spot on. My supplement stack is: Hydroxycut Hardcore elite (1-2 a day, and contains the green tea, caffeine, yohimbe, etc.) , I also take L-Cartinine, Glutamine, animal-pack, and now I use two protein shakes daily: 1 hydro-whey, and Mi-cellular Casein at nights. These have helped alot with DOMS.
Week 10 (3rd week Aug) thoughts: Back into my normal routine, still plugging away. I gotta say, I love DTP.
Week 11 (4th week Aug) thoughts: Down to 210 now, still putting in the work. What's funny is how I get constant remarks about my shape now, and everyone wants to do lip service to the 12 week program ("oh yeah, I think I might do that"), but in reality, their just not committed. If this sounds prideful forgive me, but if they only knew what this program is really about perhaps they wouldn't be so flippant.
Week 12 (1st week in September): I cannot believe it, I am near the end. But really this is just the beginning. I will never go back. My daughter kept asking why I was doing so much exercise. My response "because sweety; daddy wants to live for a very long time" (tears held back). I have kept a picture of my goal posted in my down-stairs gym (assembled from scratch). My initial goal was 205 and 15 % BF. And the results................................well, I still have two more days left :)=
