Fitness saved my life.
5 years ago I herniated 2 discs in my lower back. After seeing 2 doctors they had said I would eventually need surgery to have them fused. The first option, however, was to send me to physical therapy first. I was unable work and miserable for nearly 6 months. I was going to physical therapy 3 times a week for 3 months and I saw no improvement.
I quit going to therapy.
I could not stand up straight for nearly a year. Every step I took was painful. I thought I was just going to have to live with it. The surgery option didn't sound any more promising. I was told the success rate for being fully pain free wasn't very good.
A friend of mine's wife suggested working out. I told her I couldn't stand up straight let alone lift anything heavy!
I thought about that for a few days. The idea was stuck in my head. My brother was big into fitness and went to the gym nearly everyday training people. So I went with him and the first day was rough. could barely lift a 8 pound medicine ball. The next day I was so sore.
But I loved it. I didn't see any improvements at first, but I kept going back. Within a few weeks I noticed less pain while walking. I could stand up more straight. Within 6 weeks I had no pain in my back, no pain walking and I was standing up straight.
I was incredible. I was hooked!
Fast forward 4 years. I took a job traveling so I was on the road 6 days a week and eating out every meal. I gained 50 pounds. I was unhappy with myself. I quit that job and Moved to Austin Texas near family. I saw this Bodybuilding.com transformation challenge and it was just the motivation I needed!
I can't thank you guys enough at Bodybuilding.com
It is just a great feeling to push yourself. I love knowing that I am doing something now (like squatting 250lbs) that I couldn't do 3 months ago. It's great to always be improving and building strength and the fitness community is so supportive.
It's like a big family no matter where you go.
24 Hour Fitness is my go to gym, I love it!
