I played football in high school and seriously injured my right shoulder in the spring of my junior year. I didn't play senior year, but I got into running, swimming, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in order to keep active, but I still put on a lot of body fat. When I got to college, I kept running and swimming, but never hit the weights. In the spring of 2013, Jacob, my good friend and brother in Christ, offered to start working out with me if I got myself a gym membership, and I haven't looked back since.
I wrestle with clinical depression, and when my doctor revealed this to me, he told me that he was willing to prescribe anti-depressants for me, which would inhibit my creative capacity and alter my personality, or I could start eating clean and exercising to increase endorphin flow and combat the depression. I'm a writer and a musician, and I try to use my abilities to glory my Savior, so the inhibition of my creative capacity was not an option. I believe that my sole purpose this side of Heaven is to glorify Christ with everything I have. The Lord has blessed me with a heart for Central and South America, and by getting in the gym, I not only maintain my creative capacity, but also form my body into one that can be better used to serve others and further the Kingdom.
