My husband introduced me to the gym in 1994. We worked out together regularly but once I was pregnant I went downhill! I would pick up on/off for years until 2008. I started getting regular work outs and in 2009 I made a serious commitment to Clean Eating, Cardio and Weight Training. I had amazing successes and was at my strongest, most fit condition in my life when I tore my Achilles Tendon August 2010. Following the injury a rare neurological pain disorder developed and I spent 2 years in a wheelchair and on crutches. The disorder is non-treatable and and chronically debilitating. I wouldn't give up though and started rehabilitating my leg as much as I could. During my period of non-use I had lost more than 2" of muscle in my left thigh! The rehab process started with touching my leg with a cotton ball to grow accustomed to the feeling so as to stop the pain response that occurred with ANY touch. Obviously it was very slow progress but I have surprised my doctors,my family and myself. I am walking now, without crutches or canes! I am slowly trying to incorporate an excersize program so that I can rebuild muscle, tone my body as it's out of shape from non-use.
