I was an athlete growing up... I played competitive softball, but after I graduated high school I felt lost on how to stay in shape. My alternative was to starve myself and sadly I became very frail inside and out. When I got pregnant with my first daughter I gained over 80lbs and the journey of true weight loss began. Starting out at a size 16, I had to learn how to exercise to lose the weight. I spent an entire year working out in my bedroom everyday with my little girl in the swing watching me! She watched her mom sweat the fat off to a workout video called "The Firm"... it came with a step and I purchased my own 8lb dumbells. Unfortunately old habits die hard and I found myself struggling with eating again. Before I knew it I was a very scary 90lbs. Two more little girls later, I finally hit a wall. I was low on energy from not eating...depressed and tired of trying to keep up with an unrealistic image of what I thought was the perfect body. To make this long story short... I hired a trainer in December of 2009 and set a goal of competing in my first figure competition in April of 2010. All I wanted to do was gain 5lbs of muscle. Lets just say I very quickly became addicted to weight training and fell in love with the sport of figure. For the first time I felt like I was truly being me. I went from being this scared and frail girl to a strong and determined woman...my fire is still burning strong!
Why I Love it
I wake up with a purpose. I visualize my physique and how I want it to look and I then I work hard to get it. I love the gym... I love the iron and what it does for my mind, body and spirit! It's the one thing in my life that's always consistent.
