I got started when I was about 20. I only weighed maybe 155lbs and was sick of being the "little guy". One of my very first squad leaders was huge. He would go to the gym every morning at 400am before coming to do PT with us. He motivated me and got me started, giving me little tips and tricks along the way. He never critisized me for not being able to lift much or if i did something the wrong way he would correct me and help. Since then i have put on about 45lbs, not all good weight but most and I havent looked back.
I love working out because it is such a sense of accomplishment. Whether you only put 5lbs on your max bench or 25lbs, its a goal that you have reached and can now strive for the next. I also love the atmosphere and the dedication that everyone else in the gym brings with them. Most of the people are in there to do what they have to do and get down to business. I love going to a gym where everyone places their ego aside at the door. I myself love having an old timer or just someone with more experience than I comes and gives me tips or tries to help out. I believe thats what it is all about anyways. Helping people help themselves and I have the utmost respect for each and every person that is in the gym, or running, or doing something to better themselves. I just love it!
