The first time I lifted weights was my sophomore year in High School. As a skinny kid looking up to the more developed seniors, I joined a weight lifting class. This is where I learned proper form for the 3 basic lifts we did religiously, which was, bench press, back squats, and power cleans. I only lifted in class, those 5 hours a week for one semester a year for the next two years.
I fell in love with weights when I entered college as a collegiate athlete at Colorado State University Pueblo. A college that competed in the NCAA we were only allotted so many practices and hours a week as a team. After fall ball, preseason began, and so did out extensive workout program. The growth and strength I saw in just a few months blew my mind. After that first year in college is when I made working out a part of my life.
I love it because there is no limitations! You have the opportunity to become better every time you workout. Every workout is a new goal, and after you met that goal is another personal achievement. With taking pride in my overall health, it helps me with the temptations of alcohol, an unhealthy diet. With so many stressors in peoples lives, it is my best stress reliever. Me, the weights, no one else. Its ME time!
