One day about three weeks ago during Superbowl Sunday, a friend of mine mentioned that she was going to start bodybuilding. I looked at her like she was crazy. She is very tiny, and exceptionally fit (she is an officer in the US Marine Corps), and I didnât see how someone with her body type would ever be a bodybuilder as I understood it. I started looking into bodybuilding, and suddenly realized that this sport is the perfect marriage of all of the items that matter to me in my life; fitness, beauty (inside and out), challenging yourself, competition, healthy living, and a splash of glamour.
I love setting a goal that is more defined than 'just being in shape'. Competition breeds dedication. If you are dedicated to something, then it is not something that you do mindlessly, or without a clear target. That is what I love about bodybuilding. I love the math involved (picking a target weight/body fat/competition date/training plan), the training required (keeps you very focused), and someday soon, I will love the feeling of accomplishment from proving to myself that I can do this and win.
