Wanted to be a more competitive fighting weight, to add muscle for self-defense way back at a time when "Mixed Martial Arts" meant you had to actively look for other styles to learn from. It wasn't all taught at one gym. I followed Bruce Lee's philosophies who incidentally is now dubbed the "father" of MMA. I started training in the mid 1980's, I just never quit. I still lift to keep strong and in shape... not to "bodybuild." I've never been a bodybuilder at all. I've always liked the idea of eating healthy to keep healthy. I also decided at age 30 that age was just a number at which we randomly decide either to be old or to stay young. When I hit 35 I realized just how rare my personality and lifestyle was and saw how many people struggle just to be able to lose weight or stay in decent shape and chose to become a personal trainer for a living.
Because it sets us apart from the rest of the world. Because it makes one stronger of body and mind. Because it maintains good health. I learned Body Building because it helped me to reach my Self-defense goals of being 200 lbs in mostly muscle. But, I never considered myself to be a bodybuilder, per se. Just learned it so that I could build and strengthen faster. Then I became a Personal Trainer at age 35.
