I got started with BodyBuilding because I wanted to take a new direction for the remainder of my weight loss and fitness goals.
Haven done the Ironman triathlon, I was able to lose a decent amount of the weight towards my goal. My husband convinced me to try weight lifting after the race. After spending up to 7 hours a day doing cardio every day, i was compelled by the idea of shorter and more effective workouts.
Fast forward a few years later, we have a 1 1/2 year old and I work out in the garage, which is half weight room. I get up at 4 am to work out before she wakes up, then she goes to daycare and I head to work. I was able to find some good quality used squat cages, benches, barbells to have a legit gym. It does the job.
I'm now looking for some extra motivation to kick it to the next level of fitness, a level I haven't been able to get to on my own. I joined a crossfit gym down the street from my work, where I can go to focus on tough workouts in a supportive environment. They are very kid friendly and they have a lounge and kids corner, so my husband and I are able to each do a class while the other hangs out on the sidelines.
Even though other gyms have formal kids areas, I never was able to overcome the awkwardness of dropping out daughter off so we could work out. This way, our little one can even participate and run around with us (while of course being very aware of everyone around us). A few years ago, my husband and I used to spend hours in the gym every day on the weekend just lifting, playing around with box jumps etc. It was our favorite time together. To be able to get a taste of that again has made the switch to a crossfit gym even better!
