How I Started
My name is Rob Marcelletti I am a personal trainer and I live and work in Miami Florida. Back in the year 1988 I was living in Fresno California, I owned and managed my own paint and auto body shop and also worked as an Auto Painter for myself. One hot summer evening I was riding my motorcycle home and began to here a loud ringing in my ears, then every thing began to go dark, I quickly pulled over and parked my bike on the side of the highway. Soon later a California Highway Patrol officer stopped to check on why I was sitting on the side of the road next to my bike, he said I could not focus on him correctly so he asked me if I had drank any alcohol or was on any drugs, I told him no. I could barley see that it was a police officer, I told him I didnât know what was wrong with me, I heard a ringing in my ears then my vision in front of me went dark, yet I still could see out of the side in my peripheral vision. The officer then checked my eyes with a flash light and called the Paramedics but by the time they arrived my vision had returned to normal. This type of thing happened a few more times so I was forced to make an appointment to see a Dr. for a check up. A CAT scan reviled that I had "mild toxic brain poising" from the paint fumes I was breathing at work. Back in the late 80s they were not using HVLP paint guns nor was I using a fresh air resporatorator in my paint booth. My Dr. convinced me to change professions immediately and stop painting completely, so I sold my Auto Body Shop.
My mother was feeling bad for what had happened to me so she bought me a year membership to the local health club to begin working out to improve my health. Back then I weighed 230 lbs. and was at 37% body fat "I was a junk food addict" I worked out but only taking Martial Arts, contrary to popular belief back in the 80s the majority of Martial Arts schools in California did NOT emphasize cardio conditioning, fat loss or strength training as part of the required training, so my Tae Kwan Do did not insure me a lean muscular physique. Later that same summer I hired a High School friend and personal trainer who was also a National Level Bodybuilder" I began to loose weight and build muscle at a phenomenal rate, he got me down to a lean & muscular 165 lbs. in just 12 weeks. I was so impressed with what he accomplished with me; I got my own certification in Nutrition then later in Personal Training as well. When was working for that same health club a few years later as a Nutritionist I was involved in a severe auto accident with my Co-worker from the Club. I had ruptured a disc in my lower back that had me impaired for several months. I went to see a chiropractor who also happened to be a champion power lifter at the time. After a year of therapy and adjustments I fully recovered, in fact I even began power lifting myself to re-habilitate my spine to better then average condition. Well it turns out I had a knack for that sport and I competed in power lifting meets as a Middleweight for the next few years. In 1995 I began to using supplements for strength and saw an add for the "EAS body transformation contest" in a Flex Magazine so I entered it. I was a thick 210 lbs. at 23% body fat at the beginning of my transformation then got down to a ripped 176 lbs. at 6% so I also decided to compete in my 1st bodybuilding competition. Well I didnât win the EAS contest or the Gold's Gym Classic that year but I did come in 5th place, re-structure my physique and was hooked on bodybuilding competition.
Why I Love it
14 years I am still competing in bodybuilding, MMA and Power lifting and also working as a Martial Arts, Power lifting and Bodybuilding Instructor. I have multitude of trophies on display at my home in North Miami Beach Florida and I compete in all 3 sports still to this day. I am now opening my own training center the Academy of Mixed Martial Arts in West Miami and I am competing this year in the NPC Southern States Bodybuilding Championship in the Masters over 40 bodybuilding division. I am so glad that I have had the life that I had "good and bad" or I would never have the health & physique that I have today. I absolutely love being a trainer and competitor, I decided to alternate all three of my sports to make sure I continue to be well rounded as I age. With the new found popularity of MMA that the UFC has brought to the for front of Martial Arts my business has really taken off, I have more clients now then ever and I can utilize all my special skills to incorporate my talents to their fullest ability for myself, my weight training clients and my MMA students as well.
