I had a mid-life crisis a few months before my 45th birthday. I wanted to be a better role model when it came to health to my 2 daughters, ages 8 and 10, as I felt I was a good example of a wife and Mom with a successful career. I tried running, and upon entering a 5k June 9, 2013 I had to walk more than run due to heat, leg cramps and overall lack of energy. My best friend stayed with me, and having gotten herself into shape we decided to try working out together. We've been training buddies ever since. On Thanksgiving morning we entered a 5k Turkey Trot and I finished in 31:06 in the bitter cold, which was 14 minutes better than my June time.
I feel stronger, more confident and more energetic. I've eliminated the need for my blood pressure medicine, and transformed myself from a 16/18 to a size 10 in 7 months. I fell on icy steps on 1/5/14 which resulted in a small fracture in my rear ilium, so I haven't been able to work out while all the resolutionists are giving it their all at my gym! I know it would have been much worse if I had not been training regularly, being much stronger and fitter than I've been in years. I love lifting heavy, and pushing myself to places most women don't want to go. I am already walking slowly, hoping not to be sidelined from my progress for long
