I had spine surgery in 2008 and wasn't allowed to do any sort of activity, basically sit and sleep for a year. A minor complication caused me to be on pain meds for about 8 or 9 months. That paired with already weighing 130lbs 5'9" before the surgery left me at 110 lbs 5'11" a year later when I was released for activity. I was in a shop class in high school when I met one of my best friends, he just moved to Tennessee from Florida and he had a bench in his basement and offered to workout with me. I had never worked out before and I wasn't about to turn down a workout buddy with some experience plus a way out of my embarrassing size at the time. We go to the same college, workout at the same gym, and have had a job at the same place since then (and we were on "Acutane" an acne medicine that affected us to where we were always in a fit of rage for no reason lol it helped motivate us". Between having a full time job and being a full time student, we found a cool place to work out at "Quick Fitness 24/7" in our area. We don't work out nearly as much as we should but we usually go on two or three month sprees before work or school get the better of us, and then we take a break from the gym.
Between stresses of money, school, and work; working out gives me a way to blow off some steam and be active and healthy at the same time. Plus I like having the power to "change" my body, just the thought of being able to change your shape through perseverance, determination, and discipline is astounding (I'm a biology nut)
