After being injured in a car accident I was lost for a way to stay fit. I'd just finished Drill Sergeant School (Go Army), but because of my injuries (cervical spine) I was plagued with migraines, minimized range of motion and acute/chronic pain. It was hard to watch my fitness levels plummet and my physique turn to mush.
Enter the YMCA⦠I signed up for âFitQuestâ you get a coach and learn how to eat better. I couldnât do what people my age could (34 yo), so they suggested I roll with the âgoldâ crown. Thatâs right G-Ma PT for me! Funny thing? I was actually pretty excited. I MISS doing PT. I MISS being fit. I was desperate for anything that would get me moving toward healthy again.
So I did it all â chair class, Zumba gold, water fitness (that one didnât work out well). Eventually I got back into the routine of GOING to the gym. Then I saw a FB post from Joseph C. Donnelly's Fitness Page about HIIT â Iâd only ever heard of it on the treadmill or running (both of which I couldnât do at the time)⦠so I shot him a message and asked if I could accomplish the same thing on a low/no impact machine. He responded and the Row Machine was my new best friendâ¦
After dropping some weight I started to research how to change my body and get stronger. Iâm older now. Iâve had three children. I have limited movements⦠funny everything said body buildingâ¦. wait what? I donât want to be âcutâ I want to be sexy. I donât want to get swole (is that even a word?) I want curves⦠yep still body building.
Bring Allison Davis into the story. My dear friend, mom of two⦠freakin smoking hot fitness model. SO ANNOYING RIGHT! Oh wait? Nicest person in the world and really happy to help others stay motivated and get fit? Damn it. Guess I canât quit now. So I talked to Alli, asked for advice⦠then I got a trainer.
Been with Amy B now for 3 months. Iâve dropped 15+ lbs, my body is taking shape, Iâve got curves and strength. Cannot wait to see where the road goes next!
Why do I love it? Because I don't feel like I am going to die!! I loathe the high intensity do it faster, lift more than that guy, get it done in 3 seconds work out trend. I've been through real BCT I don't want to go back to boot camp every time I walk into a gym. I like to take my time...
(besides I get to drop my kids off in childcare for two hours and enjoy adult interaction with noone asking me to wipe their butt, boogers or other fluids of the bodily kind.
I love it because I can take my time, invest in myself and see the results... oh and the results last because they aren't a quick fix.
