I dated a bodybuilder after High School and he got me interested in bodybuilding. I've done weight training off & on over the years, but after taking a desk job & gaining a lot of weight a few years ago, I knew I had to do something. Physically, I was exhausted just trying to tie my shoes. I was tired all the time, my sleep pattern was horrible, and I was developing numerous health issues. I avoided any situations that required me to wear shorts, and swimsuits were definitely out of the question! I stopped going to the gym because I tired so easily, just after 3 or 4 reps. Mentally/emotionally, I was embarrassed by my appearance. My self-esteem was in the toilet. I was depressed much of the time and had a negative attitude towards everyone & everything. I began wearing men's 2x t-shirts, just to hide the fat! My social life was virtually non-existant, because I was too embarrassed to go out. I really had a sucky attitude towards life. After having my photo taken for my ID badge at work, I was stunned at the face I saw staring back at me! After major surgery in 2010, I began exercising again and joined a gym. I had several sessions with a personal trainer, to get me started. I didn't gain all the weight overnight and knew the changes weren't going to happen overnight. It's about dedication & staying motivated. With all of the resources available on Bodybuilding.com, I've totally revamped my diet, knowing that it will take a combination of a healthy diet & strength training is what I need to reach my goals.
