Gradually I went from doing a few exercises a week, to increasing this on a daily routine and enjoying it. Mostly cardio stuff and hadn't really bothered with weights etc.
I don't drink, used to smoke cigarettes- gave that up, have never done drugs, don't gamble, could be time for something life changing.
Apart from body building, my main interest is in sailing and pretty much anything to do with the ocean.
Body Building! as I said earlier, I went from mainly cardio exercises to starting to 'dabble' in weights, only problem is that I didn't have any weights, equipment, or even access to a gym (did I mention that I live on an island) well eight paving bricks and some cut off broom handle with a whole roll of duct tape became my first ever dumbbell Woo Hoo! Look out Arnie, here I come!! My hand crafted, non changeable dumbbell weighed in at 8.4kg (18.5 pound). I have since bought some equipment in which I use, but have kept my first 'dumb bricks' as I call them. Started looking around on the net, doing a lot or reading, and taking notice of my diet (a change was in the wind).
I don't know if I could call myself a body builder just yet, ask me in twelve months, but at the moment I love it. Its like reading a new book, not sure how its going to end up, but its great so far!
I'd love to hear from any likeminded people who are just starting out, till then, enjoy those work outs!
Like everyone else on this site, I am sure we all share similar reasons for enjoying what we do.
Its a person thing I suppose, doesn't get any more personal than actually improving on your own body, feeling the pain, and then seeing the gain.
I really enjoy increasing my strength, and completing a 'full on' work out, feeling drained and totally spent is just the best feeling. It truly is a lifestyle thing, fitness - nutrition - health, and if that means that someone pays you a compliment on how you look... Who wouldn't like that?
