Working out for me actually started in about 5th grade. I was heavily into playing sports and staying active, especially football and basketball. Problem was, I ran into some unfortunate bullying through these activities around that age, which continued on throughout middle school. My father was and still is my biggest role model, and to cope with the bullying, he sat me down and talked with me. He told me that I have two options, I could have him get involved and parents would be brought into the situation, or he can teach me a way to stop it all. That way was essentially by making me big and strong. Now I know what youre thinking...why would I stoop to their level and bullying right back? My dad's option had rules though, I was to use the weights as a way to cope with the bullying, and over time, the size and strength that I would gain would act as an intimidating shield. Whenever I felt off or bummed out, he told me to "hit the weights" to take out my stress. Needless to say I gave it a shot! Not only did this stop the bullying, it started me on a life-long journey that has changed me for the better. Everything that he could teach me I intently listened to and learned. Once I learned everything that he could share, I looked into books, searched the internet, and even picked the brains of more experienced fitness enthusiasts. Its funny how things work out. Weirdly enough, one of the bullies that picked on me when we were little is now one of my close friends and dedicated training partners! All-in-all, fitness brings people together. Its a common goal that we can all achieve, despite our desired end result. Its just a matter of taking that first step and not being afraid to see where the journey might lead!
The most amazing feeling comes with putting in work for a long period of time to slowly see something amazing emerge. I love working out because I love the feeling of being the artist and sculpting myself into what I find to be the best me. The nutrition, the training, and the friends you meet along the way make working out and bodybuilding the greatest activity there is. I have met many inspirational people throughout the fitness world that have changed me for the better, and it is that change and desire to better myself that attracts me so much to the gym. Helping others and seeing there excitement as they progress is as satisfying, if not more satisfying then seeing myself achieve new personal records. All of these examples culminate into one true reason for my love of working out, the fitness life is the best life and its what make ME happy!
