I "went to the gym" for years but never made much progress. In 1992, with the advent of the Internet, I fell into a chat room of bodybuilders. I listened, asked questions and took advice. My diet changed dramatically, calories went to 3,000 per day and protein to 325gm per day. My routine changed too. Now I'm doing deadlifts, squats, bench press, etc. Gone were the machines! Body weight went slowly from 175# to 195#, with some fat gain along the way too. Somewhere in '94 I was introduced to "Brother's Little Helper" and BAM! My recovery times were insane, the changes in lean mass unbelievable. Body weight went ever so slowly over 200# and on up to 215#. I lost my job and the subsequent inability to even afford gym membership lead to a steady decline back to 180#. Then last March an illness caused me to drop another 30# and here I am at 164 and holding. I'm back in the gym and I'm hoping muscle memory is a reality. I'm adding a lower carb diet to the mix in hopes of ridding the midsection of some fat. My goal today is to gain lean muscle, which is no easy feat, given my age. But I won't listen to the nay sayers! What if they are wrong?! I lift therefore I am.
Just learned a new term this week DOMS. I also know that, from past experience, it has always been DOMS, which made me the happiest. I feed it. Work it and am truly beginning to see old definition creaping back into chest, back and arms. I love those changes, which Bodybuilding/working out give. But it's definitely all about the DOMS. DOMS is my drug!
