I was around 15 when I started weightlifting to get bigger and stronger for football, and to be honest I wanted a six pack. I started with an at home Weider gym system in my garage and plenty of bodyweight exercises. Once I started seeing results I was hooked! Next, I took a strength training class in high-school where I learned all the basic lifts and I worked out everyday after school at our neighborhood gym. Then for the next 5 years while pursuing a degree in Exercise Science I became a personal trainer at Oregon State's Rec Center. After graduating I became the manager, personal trainer, and nutrition coach of that same neighborhood gym.
My tips for others are progressive overload, diet, and variety. You have to gradually increase something(weight, reps, sets, volume, intensity, etc.) every workout to continue seeing results, because your body will adapt. And you have to give your body the necessary calories and nutrients to grow. Then you have to experiment. Everybody is different. You have to find what works for you.
Every workout just feels amazing. I love the adrenaline rushing through my veins, the feeling of the "pump", watching my body change, looking better day after day. The stress relief, health benefits and the overall good feeling from endorphins. And I love looking good for my beautiful fiance' Lisa. The list goes on and on...
