I remember my friend Ryan pushing me into the gym. At that time I was 6'1 and weighed roughly around 150's. (stick boy). I had always been athletic and played tons of sports as a kid. At this time i was currently training in Gracie Jiu Jitsu. It was something I thought I would enjoy to pass the time and hang out, until I started seeing results. Then I became addicted. I had to be the strongest, have perfect form, and out perform anyone my size. In 6 months I put on about 30 pounds weighing in around 180. (*all natural). I really started to read and learn about not just lifting weights but strength exercises, flexibility, core training etc. I would try to apply everything i learned in the gym. I learned that if you want to be better you have to train better. I started developing my own "spin" on traditional exercises to increase the difficulty. This also helped me to avoid running into any ruts in the gym by not performing the same cookie cutter exercises/routines that everyone else was doing.
This may sound odd to some people but the reason I love to work out is because I hate it!. I do. But I am a firm believer that in order to love this sport/lifestyle/working out or whatever you want to call it; you have to hate it. You have to HATE the pain. Hate the sweat. Hate time and devotion you put into it all. Only then can you truly appreciate it and love it. Its hard to explain..Maybe Im just weird. =)
