Tried like crazy to put on muscle back in high school. Took weight gainers and those huge liver pills. I ate everything put in front of me. Nothing worked. I graduated at 5'6" 135 lbs. They called it Very High Metabolism.
Even 3 years after high school, nothing changed. Then, we started sneaking into a gym to play basketball and that's when I started working out. I eventually started to put on some muscle.
I became a Physical Therapy Assistant. The company I worked for took our patients to that exact gym that I used to sneak into when I was younger. At my leanest, I was about 30 y.o., 5'7" with striations EVERYWHERE! Eighteen years later I am at 185 give or take 3 lbs.
My current job is can be very physical so I try to workout with the young boys to keep me motivated. I would like to see if I could see my abs instead of a keg again. I would really like to be a good example to my kids. No matter how old you are, you can still achieve your goals. At least, physically.
I love to work out because I am still very competitive. I do what I can through all of my injuries. When I am working out, I forget how old I am. I have a very young wife with four kids all 10 and under, so I continue to strive to keep up with them. I know that being in great shape can keep my brothers and sisters and myself safe during my job duties as a firefighter.
