I started working out when I was about 15 years old. I competed in powerlifting until I was approximately 18. I competed in Teenage Nationals placing 2nd in the 102 weight class (my true weight class was 97, but there were no other competitors). I held 3 Teenage American Records in squat, deadliftt and total. After a career ending injury in 1992, I gave up lifting. Recently, my 17 year old daughter has re-inspired me to do what I used to live for DEADLIFT DAY! So while many people look forward to Happy Hour on Friday, I look forward to DEADLIFT.
The sense of calmness that comes with the burn; the adrenaline of making the lift; the thrill of doing something you were told you would never do; the satisfaction of looking better than most of your kid's friends but truly just because I love it and lost myself somewhere along life's path and my daughter has helped me rediscover myself.
