I am not one of the guys that was the sports star in high school and then became a fitness enthusiast. I played sports growing up, but I was never excellent. I wasn't the worst, but I wasn't the best. I never even lifted for sports. I began getting interested in lifting weights around junior high/early high school. My dad gave me a bench with some dumbbells which I used for a few years at home before joining my first gym at age 16. I lifted for the rest of high school, but I had little direction and little experience with most major lifts. Also, although my family ate fairly healthy, I wasn't following any sort of specific dietary regimen. Once I began college, I became fascinated with the physiology behind exercise and nutrition. I began to make much better gains as I tweaked my workouts and began to regulate my diet. Since then, I have tried to continually improve my diet and change up my workout program since then.
I love competing with myself and seeing the changes that hard work and planning can bring about. There is nothing you can do about your genetics, but you can push yourself to your maximum potential, and that really excites me!
Most importantly, I want to do everything excellently for the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31). I think that taking care of the body God has given you is a way to praise Him.
