I started out as a high school cross country (5k) and track (800m and 400m) runner, shortly after that I realized how important strength training was with regards to bettering my running performance. The body weight strength training lead me to my first 5 Boston Qualifiers, stopped qualifying because I stopped running marathons. After a 9 year hiatus from racing, and 25 pounds heavier, I decided to get back in shape and being in my late 40's that meant doing weight training. Now the weights are just as important as the running. I'm not as fast as before but I feel like I'm stronger to take on any course, such as my 6th Boston Qualifier in Dec 2014 (Rock and Roll San Antonio) after 11 years of not running a marathon.
My daily workouts, (yes, love doing 2-a-days) are my escape from the stress of ordinary everyday life stresses. Going for a run then hitting the gym has no comparison and totally helps my mental state. Every day I'm looking for a new challenge and new workouts, which is how I found Bodybuilding.com (thank you Ashley Horner) . Plus, it also helps when the younger guys at the gym are having problems keeping up with the old-guy.
