I got started doing chin ups in my back yard when I was 11, because I wanted to be stronger then the other kids and it felt great.

Long Term: It's one of the primary ways by which I can proactively influence my health.
Short Term: It makes me feel great, alive. Working out seems to be the best way to spite oneself.
