I started my profile for the 2014 challenge but have been using the site since 2009. I have been into weight training for some time.
In 2008 I did the Body for life program which was my first introduction to weight training. I absolutely loved it and enjoyed the principals and results. I have never enjoyed cardio so weights had me hooked from the start. I had been diagnosed with PCOS and was told that exercise was an absolute must. I managed to loose weight and look great in a short amount of time and fell pregnant with my first son.
He was born in October 2009, I only picked up 10kgs and lost them in 2 months. When my son was a year old I had reverted back to old ways and decided to change for good. I started weight straining and followed a no-carb plan. I dropped from 68kgs to 58kgs and then fell pregnant with my second son. During my pregnancy I trained hard but ate anything and everything (think cheesecake every day) and gained 20kgs. He was born in May 2012. I managed to lose those kgs within 2 months and was back to 58kgs and have maintained this eating relatively normally and training well.
I did the Jamie Eason Live Fit program 3 times and followed to Jim Stopanni's Shortcut-to-Shred and saw huge strength gains. At the end of 2013 I went to see a coach for my nutrition and training. I have been doing no cardio and focusing on short heavy workouts. I have gained good muscle (now 61kgs) but would like to take it to the next level and start competing.
There is no way around it...body building is addictive. Firstly the changes in your shape are amazing, every time I see a change I get excited. Secondly the ultimate competition is against yourself, I love going and hitting a new personal best, the first time I did a 60kg squat I almost high-fived myself. I want to have a new BP every week! And then thirdly you become part of a community, even though we donât all chat at gym we all know the regulars, give a head tilt or a 'whats up' and itâs great to be part of it. I feel healthy, fit and strong... strong is the new sexy!
