I've always been a gym rat, just took a very long sabatical. I was medically separated from the Army in 2000, and started working for the USPS. With moving all the mail/packages, there was no real need to work out further. My off time was spent with my kids playing soccer, or on the beach, surfing, swimming or SCUBA diving. Then one day, a bunch of morons changed the world. I was called back to Army service in 2001, this time as a civilian, been doing it ever since. With a couple of moves, and as the kids got older, I started to get lazy and did nothing. I did pick up a new hobby, competitive BBQ, and with all that going on, pretty much blew any chance of me getting back to where I was once.
The final straw was in the fall of 2011, I came home from a competition, only to find someone else's vehicle parked at my house. Turns out that my wife, who I shared the same house and bed for 23 years, decided to search for greener pastures. I wasn't totally surprised, we should have probably gone our separate ways alot earlier. The kids are all grown and left the house. We separated shortly thereafter, with my divorce becoming final on Apr 29th. Maryland really has some strange marriage laws......
Sorry I have taken so long, but the bottom line is that I'm tired of being tired, tired of looking like I can drink a keg of beer in one sitting, and ready to enjoy a real lifestyle change. I'm in the gym 4 days a week, pushing iron like I did when I was a soldier. I have a long journey ahead of me, and have to re-learn alot. But with the support of this website, and of my true friends, I will get there.
Its that stress relief I feel when working out. Pushing iron, the only one I'm hurting is myself......and it's not really hurt, the soreness is passing finally, I see the numbers coming down on the scale, and I generally feel ok. After a session, I am content, relaxed and ready to spend time with my doggie, and hopefully someday someone special...
