My cousin was a amateur bodybuilder and I totally idolized him as a kid. He was the first one to teach me how to bench press when I was 11 years old. I didn't start lifting regularly until I was 18. I was a skinny runt and even with coaching from my cousin I didn't have the nerve to step into a gym...or to really say to myself "I WANT BIG MUSCLES!!" So: I got over that and haven't stopped since. When I was in my late 20's I got more serious, made a home gym in my house, went to Bodybuilding camp, etc etc. In my mid 30's I got even more serious- and when you live in LA you have access to the allmighty Golds/World/and get to be in the presence of the biggest guys in the universe: quite literally. In my mid 40's I entered the corporate world, with a traveling job, and quite honestly, a fat expense account where I would spend most of my time eating and drinking and blowing off crappy hotel gyms. I ballooned up to 325 pounds, felt like crap, was always winded as every step I took was like doing a 325# squat. I left that gig after 15 years, am doing my own thing now, and just got back into it after losing about 100 pounds. I started a few months ago and I never felt better and NEVER have been stronger- even when I was a mean and lean 190 pounder.
I've always loved bodybuilding. As a kid, I read all the Weider mags, and have always admired big and powerful men. I love to feel the weight, and we all love that pump. I'm not an 18 year old kid anymore, but my passion for the sport and weight lifting remains the same if not stronger now more than ever. So much information is available now because of a global society- you don't have to wait for the next Muscular Development to come out- they always featured the biggest guys! Made a commitment to myself to stay on this journey for the rest of my life. I love to lift, and YES....I STILL WANT BIG MUSCLES!
