In high school and my first 2-years of college...I was so lean, ran and lifted daily. Then came a skiing accident, followed by 2-surgeries on my left knee. I recovered quickly, only to fall and tear my right knee a year later. That little injury equaled 5 surgeries. After the second one I was not released for PT until 6 months after -- gained about 40 lbs and turned to flabby mush. By the time surgery #5 was over (and 3.5 years later) I was so out of shape and sad of what my body had become, all the sports I loved to play were out of reach.... I gave up. When I say gave up -- I lost my ability to think clearly -- cause I married a jerk (clear thinking really missed those warning signs!) Had the most amazing son (true miracle baby), probably added another 20 lb too. Finally, I wised up and booted him. I got divorced, laid off, had rotator cuff surgery and my son had a tonsillectomy and adenoids removed ALL in the same damn month! Good riddance to that year!!!
After fighting complications from my shoulder surgery, major knee pain, etc. I finally told all the Dr.'s 'screw this I am going back to the gym!' I've never felt better! Over a year back at it down and a lifetime to go!!!
I feel great, it relieves the stress of my demanding career, makes me an energetic and fun Mom and makes me whole! I have never felt better all around.. working out truly is a benefit to your mind, body and spirit. It's a part of life, just like sleeping, eating and working. I wouldn't have it any other way!
